Association Between Essential Tremor and Blood Lead Concentration (EHP original)

Publication Date:

July 3, 2003

Describes a study showing that people with "essential tremor" have more lead in their blood than people without this condition, which occurs in 10 million Americans. The levels of lead involved are relatively low (2 to 3 micrograms per deciliter). This study does not prove that essential tremor is caused by lead but it raises a flag indicating the need for further research.
