Administered by the Environmenal Working Group, the MapScience Center Nuclear Waste Route Maps website uses Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis to generate custom maps of nuclear waste transportation routes.
Envocare Ltd. was established to provide easy access for the public at large to information relevant to preserving and improving the environment. Their web-site offers links to information about recycling, hazardous waste, PCs and cartridges, electrical equipment, ethical investment, composting, alternative and renewable energy, climate change and environmental education.
H.E.A.L. was formed to educate and inform residents of Northeast Michigan to hazards and pollution caused by burning of hazardous waste by the largest facility in the State of Michigan. The group has disbanded in recent years, but the information listed on the web-site is a wonderful resource for technical information about cement kilns and their contribution to air pollution.
The goal of the AVA Network project is to promote environmental sustainability through changing awareness and values, and to support environmental actions in these societies. AVA implements this vision through two primary approaches: national seminars and campaigns on selected environmental topics to influence decision makers and public opinion to be more environmentally aware.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Window to My Environment is a prototype version of a new web-based tool that provides a wide range of federal, state, and local information about environmental conditions and features in an area of the user's choice. WME is currently being prototyped for testing in the EPA Region III area--covering Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The user can plug in a zip code and WME shows superfund sites, hazardous waste sites, air releases, toxic releases, and discharges to water in the designated area.
